    Project Description    
The Wiley Slough restoration project is located on the South Fork of the Skagit River, near Conway Washington. The entire project involves the removal of 6,500 ft of dike, 6 tidegates, and 1 culvert to restore tidal and riverine flooding to over 160 acres of former tidelands. When completed this project will result in the expression of approximately 4.9 acres of tidal channel area and 7.3 miles of tidal channel as the result of restored tidal and riverine flooding. There will also be off-site (downstream) increases in tidal channel area as a consequence of increased tidal prism. These changes along with the current site topography will allow recolonization of the site by native tidal marsh vegetation-primarily tidal sedge -and use of the tidal channel habitat by ESA-listed juvenile Chinook salmon, other juvenile salmon, and other native fish and wildlife. The Chinook recovery plan for the Skagit () estimates that 2,750 acres of tidal marsh restoration are required for Chinook recovery in the Skagit system. The Wiley Slough restoration site will account for 5.8% of this goal.
